Atin Basak

Atin Basak (b. 1966, Kolkata) is a distinguished Indian artist renowned for his evocative etchings, lithographs, and paintings that explore themes of solitude, spirituality, and cultural heritage. A graduate of the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, with an M.A. in Printmaking from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, Basak’s work draws deeply from Eastern philosophy. His subjects—reclusive sages and mystics—embody detachment, introspection, and quiet strength, standing apart from the noise of modern life.

Through a masterful use of texture, shadow, and Sanskrit symbolism, Basak creates powerful visual narratives rooted in tradition and inner wisdom. His recent works, with titles like Hermit and Solitude, reflect a profound reverence for forgotten values and timeless belief systems. He has been honored with the Charles Wallace India Trust Arts Award and a French Government scholarship. His art is held in prestigious public and private collections across India, Europe, and Asia, including the National Gallery of Modern Art and Lalit Kala Akademi.
