Dharmendra Rathore
Dharmendra Rathore (b. 1965, Salari, Rajasthan) is a distinguished Indian artist whose vibrant works are deeply rooted in the rich cultural tapestry of his homeland. Drawing inspiration from the vivid colors, musical traditions, and miniature paintings of Rajasthan, Rathore’s art seamlessly blends traditional motifs with contemporary themes. His early fascination with the festive hues and folk elements of his surroundings laid the foundation for a career that celebrates the confluence of heritage and modernity.
Rathore holds a Diploma in Painting from the Rajasthan School of Art, Jaipur (1990), and an MFA from the Delhi College of Art (1993). His oeuvre, characterized by a transition from abstraction to figurative expression, often delves into philosophical and spiritual realms, reflecting a deep engagement with societal themes. Over the years, he has showcased his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions across India and internationally, including the First Biennale of Contemporary Art in Arad, Romania. His contributions have been recognized with several accolades, such as the State Award from the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi and fellowships from AIFACS and the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Rathore’s artworks are part of esteemed collections worldwide, including the Glenbarra Art Museum in Japan and the National Lalit Kala Akademi in India.
